October 6th-8th

This is the official announcement of our next Dystopia Rising: Connecticut online game, running from October 6th to October 8th.

The name of the event is “Cannibal Mutant Assassinations Gone Wild” and will be taking place on the flavorful and friendly islet of Phissbarrel!

(Details found in the Dystopia Rising: Evolution book, The Wailing Shores).

Key things to know:

There are some event details that we want to share with you all up front, because we think it is vital for the transparency of this event. We are going to list these key items in bolded bullet points with the hopes that they are not missed.

  • This is an 18+ game that will largely be focusing on horror, murder, violence, and death. We are taking inspiration for this event from classic 80s-90s horror and action films. We are leaning into pulp horror.

  • This game will have a very large criminal and Murder Inc aspect to the game. This is in part because we are releasing the finalized Murder Inc Dystopia Rising Live book right before this game.

  • This is a limited ticket game. 150 attending tickets total. We know what story we want to run. This is to ensure the quality of the event.

  • 75 tickets will be sold that require having Murder Inc on your character sheet. 75 tickets will be sold that are general admission for all players. This means you criminiminims need to be subtle, but you non-criminiminims need to understand the gore fest you will be getting yourself into.

  • The reason why we know exactly what we want to run, is that all of the modules are being written by Michael and Catie (the makers of Dystopia Rising). All of the time after staff hiring will be focused on game implementation and experience design (and adaptation) instead of crafting the narrative. The core intended narrative is already written.

  • The money from these events goes to pay our staff and to pay for the next free book we plan on releasing. Even if you can’t attend, consider getting a non-attendance ticket to help support more content being released for free for Dystopia Rising Live.

Other Stuff To Know:

  • We will provide special perks to players that not only costume, but also do scene setting for their play space. Video is going to be big for all of our face NPCs.

  • We will give extra perks to players that have near death experiences that return to play covered in fake blood and with fake wounds. Major perks. You lean into it more, we lean into it more.

  • We will be using the Larpletop system. It’s not complex, and we host it on our site for free. You can even use search functions!

  • We are focusing on horror and violence a ton. If you don’t dig stories that involve these narratives, this very well might not be for you. This is not an econ focused game. Production rules are listed in short form in the FAQ and in long form on our Discord.

  • You will receive guaranteed access to 2 modules, which will run for about 2 to 3 hours. We also have casted characters who will be running scenes, as well as drop-in modules running through the server.

  • With our ticket price, we will mail all item cards, blueprints, and currency to you. If you give us the wrong address, there isn’t a lot we can do. Please give us the correct address so we can get you the correct stuff. If you want your stuff quickly (faster than a 4 week turnaround) we will sell an expedited option that will get your items to you faster.

The Story

Welcome to the Island of Phissbarrel - where blood is just as common as water. Saltpier says we’re idiots, but we say they just don’t know how to have fun. We’re celebrating the Night of Terror by getting together for a party. After all, there’s safety in numbers. The Ol’ Slap ‘N Tickle will be offering drinks and food, and we’ll be partying for as long as the monsters don’t get us.

But there’s been something…strange…happening here on the Wailing Shores. People from Brownstone and Saltpier are telling us about some shit going down on the Mainland. Plus, there’s a cabbage farmer that’s acting weird. I mean….real weird.

Maybe we should split up and find out what’s happening. What could possibly go wrong?

Part 1: Mutant Cannibals

People are going missing - and not just bad people. Good people. It’s like all those serial killers from the Lighthouse escaped and are having their way on the Wailing Shores. Problem is, they’re still locked up tight. And don’t get me started on what’s going on with the pirates nearby. They’re acting even more erratic than usual. So what the fuck is messing with our island?

Part 2: Assassinations Gone Wild

There are people in the wastes that have acquired a certain set of skills - skills that can be devastating if these individuals are not in full control of themselves. If we take care of this ourselves, we’re looking at an internal fight that will last for years. But if you take care of it…well…it may be worth your while. Plus, you’ll be serving the greater good. We don’t want this to spread, after all.

Content Discussion

This game will deal with heavy themes of violence, death, assassinations, body modification, and horror. CvC Conflict may be possible, and we ask that you handle things like adults. We will not be pulling back from these themes, so make sure that this is an event that you’d like to attend before purchasing an attending ticket. If you’d like to support further content publications, then we encourage you to purchase a non-attending ticket.

Other things you can expect include: epic sea adventures, horrific plant mutations, edgy criminals, cultists, a new and devastating brand of raiders, and the potential of bad brain.

What to Expect

We recognize online events are run differently with each chapter. With that in mind, there are a few things you should expect to see:

  • 50+ modules, including drop-in modules where organic roleplay leads to a module in the Discord channel.

  • Room descriptions so you can visualize where your character is.

  • Soundscapes to help with your immersion

  • Paid Casted Characters that interact with you and lead you to the plot points over the weekend.

  • Roaming threats and other repercussions due to what characters do on modules.

Ongoing Story

As we release more content online, we’ll be updating our ongoing story below. That way, there’s one place to discover what’s happening on the Waling Shores.

Ongoing Narrative

Saltpier is the largest island of the Wailing Shores — and if you can say one thing about the people of Saltpier, it’d be that they don’t get along with the rowdy “hooligans” of Phissbarrel. They normally are at a bit of an impasse, though, since Phissbarrel is small enough that Saltpier rarely bothers with them.

In this case, though, it looks like a rather large sum of money has gone missing…and Phissbarrel may be involved. Since the Chancellors of Order rule Saltpier, they’re using their strong arms to look into it — the notorious and well-meaning Stormies. Captain Carmen is on their way, but they’re worried about the Raider threat on the seas.

Captain Carmen may be on her way to Phissbarrel, but they weren’t wrong about the threat in the waters. A distress call goes out across the waters form Captain Rico of the Hells Bells. He claims that he’s being attacked by pirates — but could something else be at play on the Wailing Shores? Hopefully Captain Carmen gets there in time.

It looks like Captain Carmen didn’t arrive in time, but did find the remains of the Hells Bells. But what exactly happened? The ship was found filled with corpse cabbage-infected zombies. Now, she’s begging for Chancellor Sargentia Larsen to send out a letter, asking for aid from those who are not from the Wailing Shores. Is it pirates, or something else? Captain Carmen believes that there may be more at play.

Phissbarrel Island and its denizens are at it again. They’ve announced a “Lights Out Party” that they’ll be posting on the Night of Terror. Word has gone out throughout the wastes that this is THE party to go to for drinking, drugs, and general mayhem. Of course, there is also the rumor that Sargentia Larson may have sent another letter…but who cares about that. Let’s all got to Phissbarrel for the party. No one cares about Sargentia Lame-son and Saltpier.

As Captain Carmen and Sargentia Larsen deal with the fallout of Phissbarrel’s declaration, a Graverobber takes matters into their own hands. Vivere sends out a note to the wastes, telling of a threat that’s more dangerous than anyone could have imagined. They send out the notes they’ve compiled with the help of Captain Carmen and Dr. Phineas, and ask for experts and researchers to join them. Click here to learn more about the threat.

While Raiders are being dealt with, word goes out among criminal circles about another threat that needs to be dealt with: The Flesh Peddler.

FAQ

  • We will provide all attending players 12 hours for blueprint production, crafting, and resource production. We will have you fill out a form before the event. You cannot use mind brews or meals to increase the production during that time. We will not require you to sit in a crafting channel during play time. We would rather have you RP the way you want with who you want during the time you are on.

  • Our base ticket price includes the cost of mailing items out. Just make sure you give us an accurate address. If we have to resend due to items being lost at your end, there may be an additional $10 reshipping charge.

  • Not this time. We focused on making a book instead. The two take roughly the same time investment.

  • Yeah. We need to put a hard limit on the number of tickets sold. If we put in “75 of 0 extra XP, 75 of 1 extra XP, 75 of 2 extra” etc. then we need to monitor the tickets live and hand turn them off. We can’t do that this time, and we really can’t sell extra tickets since we want to be sure that we have enough staff and modules for all.

  • We will provide a link to join our server for free and a couple rooms will be open for free roleplay. There isn’t a place to get one of these tickets on the site. Instead, you just need to join our Discord, and we’ll assign you the free ticket role for the event. Keep in mind that these free rooms will not have casted characters and will not be involved with the plot and story of the weekend at all. You also won’t be able to interact mechanically with anyone. If you’d like to be part of the event, we highly encourage you to snag a ticket. Plus, you’ll be supporting future content publications.

  • The next book we’ll be working on will be one that covers the Mortis Amaranthine, Graverobbing, Grave procedures, and all things spooky. Your ticket will help support us continuing to create these books, and hosting them for free online.
