Welcome to Ironmound Islet

Iron Mound Islet is all labor, metal, and smoke. The Fat Stacks Forge roars day and night, hammering out weapons, gear, and prosthetics, many of them just as deadly as the threats they’re meant to combat. The Harkness Union Hall acts as both guild headquarters and negotiator’s fortress, where work rights are debated with fists as often as words. The Iron Mound Shipyard stands at the edge, spitting out rust-shelled vessels barely held together by spite and bolt glue. This is where industry breathes hard and fast, and where the weight of obligation is heavier than armor .

Culture and Daily Life

Daily life on Ironmound Islet is hard. People rise with the sun and work long into the evening at the forge and shipyard. Evenings are spent either doing chores, speaking in the evenings at Harkness Union Hall, or drinking at the local bar: The Hole.

People on Ironmound dress for rough labor and for practicality. There isn’t the finery that you see on Brownstone, or even the militaristic flair that you encounter on Saltpier Island. Instead, there is the rough-and-tumble look of someone who is used to hard work.

That doesn’t mean that the people that live on Ironmound haven’t developed their own, unique style. It’s become popular to display the symbols of the company you work for as a badge or as a symbol of some kind. This, in turn, has created a type of competitive factionalism within Ironmound Islet.

Ironmound is the place where scrim is king. The various different companies that have representatives on Ironmound largely control the interests of the islet, getting together to vote on policies on a regular basis. While there are sometimes worker strikes, these are normally short-lived when the heads of these companies come to the table.

What is most important to note culturally, however, is the fact that Ironmound is known for its contracts. Your word is binding on Ironmound, and a broken contract is the same as a stab in the back. The people of the islet don’t enter into contracts lightly, and keep the promises that they make.

The Factions of Ironmound

While there are many groups across the Wailing Shores, there are a few main ones that make their home on Ironmound Islet. These are the main movers and shakers on the island, and while other groups may appear and certain have influence, these are the ones that you’re most likely to meet while on Ironmound Islet

The Laws of Iron

1. Every person of Iron Mound holds the unquestioned right to defend their own life, their labor, and the shared holdings of the Islet. This right is not optional. It is an expectation. Whether on the Iron Mound itself or upon the open water, those who dwell here are bound to answer threat with action. To stand idle while shared property, vessels, or lives are taken is to abandon the Islet itself. Defense is not violence for its own sake. It is stewardship enforced with steel.

II. Commerce is the blood that keeps Iron Mound moving. Contracts, bargains, and agreements entered into knowingly and without coercion are binding under Islet law. A deal stands if all parties understand its terms, are not compelled by immediate threat, and if a copy of the agreement is filed with the Documentation Keep. No contract may endanger the Islet as a whole, though it may risk the fortune or body of an individual. When disputes arise, Union representatives serve as arbiters, weighing the letter of the agreement against the survival of the community.

III. The Captain commands the ship and defines the nature of hospitality. The owner commands their ground. Authority flows from responsibility, and responsibility rests with those who hold the space. A vessel, a home, a shop, or a flotilla section is sovereign territory under its master’s control. Hospitality is extended at the discretion of the holder, and order within that domain is theirs to enforce. Outside interference is tolerated only when it threatens the greater safety of the Islet.
