Future of the Wailing Shores
Welcome to our new webpage for the Dystopia Rising Connecticut: Wailing Shores.
This page used to be hosted as part of the Most Improbable webpage, and while it is still one of the projects Most Improbable runs, we found that keeping the webpage as a sub-page of the Most Improbable company page made it more difficult to find all of the details that you might need for Dystopia Rising: Wailing Shores events. So we broke this page out as its own standalone webpage, are currently working on transferring all of our content for the Wailing Shores over to here, and also are removing some of the redundant and bloated content that we had for DR CT.
This sort of brings us to the primary focus of today’s post: the future of Dystopia Rising CT and the Wailing Shores (as of now).
The Wailing Shores opened it’s doors with the 2022 National event ran in conjunction with Dystopia Rising Texas. The “Necrophage” event in 2022 was a great success with 131 virtual attending players, an additional 52 non-module / crafting players, and a narrative weekend that went smoother than any virtual larp we have ran before. With a combination of ARG, non-paying RP spaces, dedicated casted characters in roleplay channels, and 60+ modules each with space for 6 participants (as well as drop in and public space events) the event was a great success.
But one thing we noticed is that we barely touched the content we developed for the wailing shores. We used one part, of one island, and a section of the waterways just off that island. We didn’t get into life on any of the other main islands or the secondary islets, the mainland, or what it is like to actually go out into the ocean on post-apocalyptic ships. We barely introduced some of our local prints, local design concepts, and local threats (we didn’t even get to barely mention our aquatic raiders or cannibalistic mainlanders).
So with this in mind we are going to be running online, recurring, events in the Wailing Shores region 3-4 times a year with a in person social/convention event where we get to all come together as people to have a good time. We want to keep our games smaller, capping them at the 100 person attendee mark, so that we can make sure that our attendees not only have the opportunity for the adventures they want but also have the time to build the communities they deserve.
So there it is. Until next time, grab a bowl of chowdah and enjoy some time with ones you love.
